OK, I’m back on track after yesterday’s Frocktober fail (which was really a win because – come on – that was a pretty cute outfit). This is a little dressier than what I usually wear on Sundays, but what can I say? Frocktober looks good on me. So how does it look on YOU? My fellow fabulous real-life bloggers, feel free to post your own favorite fall dress outfits in the linkup below! And you can show your appreciation by following me on Bloglovin’ or Instagram.

I recently learned that any blogger who doesn’t do a cute fall outfit photo shoot in an apple orchard  will be swiftly stripped of her domain name. Yup. Her Instagram account will be suspended too. In extreme cases, she will not be served PSLs at any Starbucks location. I just can’t take that risk, you guys. I love my square pictures and pumpkin spice.

OK, so it might have been all the other apple-picking bloggers that planted (pun intended) the idea in my head, but it is something that sounded like fun, and there happens to be an orchard about half an hour away from me. So last Saturday afternoon we headed to Tuttle Orchards to get our freakin’ fall on. The outfit photo-op was just a bonus.

As it turns out, there aren’t a ton of apples left on the trees this late in the season (in Indiana anyway), but we made out OK. We are not above grabbing a few good ones from the ground to fill up our bag. But note to self: next year, go earlier.

Don’t be fooled by my recent jeans outfit posts – Frocktober is still in full swing, I just haven’t been able to do photo shoots for all of my dress-centric looks. Here are a few other ways I’ve rocked my frocks (too much? sorry…) over the past few weeks…

print shift dress, platform Mary JanesDress // Shoes (on sale)

OK, so technically I wore this outfit in late September, but I feel it’s in the spirit of Frocktober. And this is my blog so I’ll do what I want. It was pretty warm when I wore this dress, but I think it’ll look great with my black over-the-knee boots soon.

I’ll have you know I wore this outfit to go out to a bar on Saturday night. And I don’t just mean cocktails until 9pm. I was out past midnight. Who am I? It won’t happen again, I promise.

I’m a big fan of lightweight turtlenecks for layering this time of year. This is my fourth one from J.Crew – they’re super cheap if you can catch them on sale!

You might think there are only so many ways to wear a dress, but I have fun plans for this shirtdress for even more Frocktober fun. Who knows…it may even spill in to November. MADNESS.

OK, FINE. This one isn’t Frocktober-themed. I’m just really excited about my new shoes.

Happy weekend!

Did you miss Frocktober yesterday?! I never said I’d wear dresses every day this month, just most days. 🙂 Wearing this burnt orange dress is pretty much like dressing as a fall leaf. If this dress could sing, it would be like: “I’m bringin’ autumn back (yeah), your photosynthesis don’t know how to act (yeah).

The only challenge to this dress is the super low-cut neckline. I’ve layered a tank underneath before, but that just seems kind of boring. I got more creative this time and layered a sleeveless button-up shirt underneath. I wasn’t sure it would work but it kind of looks like it was part of the dress all along!

Just when I was getting all into Frocktober, it got hot again. Luckily this vest looks the autumnal part but lets my skin breathe. And yes – it’s officially ankle boot season! (“How to Wear Ankle Boots” continues to be one of my most popular posts ever, by the way. Have you read it? You should.) Wednesday morning after I got dressed I decided boots would be the perfect way to complete the look, so I went down to the basement and pulled out all my tubs of winter clothes looking for these boots. Tub #1…sweaters. Tub #2…shoe boxes holding other ankle boots but not black ones. Tub #3…more sweaters. Tub #4…tall boots. What the hell. Also: why do I have so many clothes?!

I went back upstairs to my dressing room and then remembered there were a few shoe boxes on the top shelf of the closet. I put a couple pairs of boots up there back in the spring because I knew once early fall came, I would probably want to wear them before I got around to unpacking all my cold-weather clothes. It was a really great idea that would have worked out better if I had remembered having that really great idea six months later.

As promised, I’m doing an unofficial “Frocktober” challenge where I remix my summery dresses into fall outfits. I thought I made this up, and then I found out that Frocktoberfest is also a festival in Australia and New Zealand where everyone wears dresses and they raise money for ovarian cancer research. To be clear, my version is less fun, less charitable, and doesn’t have a cool accent. But it still involves dresses, so there’s that.

One of the easiest ways to Frocktober-ize a dress to add a leather jacket. And that’s pretty much the end of my advice. See, told ya it was easy.

long sleeve flora maxi dress, maxi dress with heels, Ann Taylor suede bow pumps, maxi dress for the office

Theory I developed while wearing this outfit: more dress equals more compliments on that dress. I mean, I have a crap ton of mid-thigh and knee-length pretty floral frocks, but this maxi elicited an abnormal amount of “cute dress!” comments. And all of those comments came when people saw the full-length view, not just me sitting behind my desk. I’m telling you, there’s something there.

Speaking of dresses, I’m feeling an early October theme coming on: Frocktober. I’m going to remix some of my summer dresses with jackets, sweaters, boots, and other fall things over the next couple weeks. Because (a) I want to, and (b) I like to show you guys how you can make your summer wardrobe go a little farther into fall. Just pretend you appreciate it, OK? Happy Frocktober!
