I don’t think new goals need to correspond with a new year, but as long as everyone has resolutions on the mind, what better time to jump on my sustainable shopper bandwagon? I am by no means perfect, but I feel pretty good about the progress I’ve made over the past few months.

Don’t know where to start? If you’re like me and you revel in the joy of unboxing shiny new things, start looking in to some sustainable fashion brands and give them a try. Google is your friend. So are bloggers like me.

I kept seeing the brand Reformation popping up in every list I found, and most of it wasn’t really my style (for lack of a better word, it’s kind of “clubby”). But then I saw this skirt on one of my favorite style bloggers, and it was right up my alley so I ordered it. While I do love the style, I have to say that up close, the quality is not great for the price. It honestly looks and feels like it came from Forever 21. I’m willing to pay more for clothes that don’t ruin the environment and are made by people who get paid a living wage, but…come on. We can do better.

There are lots of options out there, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t give Reformation a try. Maybe you’ll love it. But if I’m going to guide you down this road, I might as well warn you about potential dead ends.

Happy new year, and good luck with whatever your resolutions are – especially if you resolve to just stay awesome.

Do you ever randomly recollect great childhood memories that you hadn’t thought about for decades? Tonight I had macaroni & cheese and green beans, and I suddenly remembered one of my favorite books as a kid, Suppertime for Frieda Fuzzypaws. It’s about a kitten who wants a cookie, and her parents say she has to finish her dinner first. But she hates green beans so she tries to hide them under her macaroni. So her dad draws a cookie for her, and Frieda’s like “f*ck you, pops” (but, you know, the PG version of that).

Suffice it to say, as a child I identified on many levels with little Frieda Fuzzypaws. I do like vegetables now, but to be honest, they’re still just a necessary precursor to dessert. 🙂
