Welcome to post-Christmas reality, everyone. It’s hard. I know. I spent the holiday weekend eating Middle Eastern food with the Kennedys, naturally. My “traditional” Christmas went something like this:

Kristin’s family has a tradition of going to the movies on Christmas Eve, and I used to do the same thing with my family (not every year, but pretty often). The two of us will take pretty much any excuse to go to the movies, so we’ve adopted the Xmas Eve movie tradition. This year we saw Jackie. (I don’t think it will take home a lot of awards, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Natalie Portman gets some recognition, if only for doing the accent.)

A few years ago, we did Christmas in D.C. with my parents and sister, and the only open restaurant within walking distance of our hotel was a Moroccan place. Nothing says the birth of Jesus like belly dancing and a big bowl of couscous. We joked that this should be a family tradition, and this year we finally got around to doing Moroccan again. I didn’t get to see my parents or sister this year, but we invited our favorite open-minded friends to come with us!

The rest of the holiday weekend was a little more what you’d expect: presents, food, visiting family. I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and/or Hannukah with all your favorite traditions, the weirder the better.
