When: Saturday // Weather: pleasantly hot // Real life: a few hours at the Indiana State Fair, then a coworker’s baby shower, then dinner and cocktails in Fountain Square
In case you’re wondering if it’s hard to keep an off-the-shoulder top in place, the answer is a million times yes. But it took me like 12 tries to find an off-the-shoulder top that I liked, so I was committed to make it work. The nice thing about this one is that it doesn’t fall down, it only rides up, so at worst, I’m just wearing a boatneck tee.
What else did I do besides adjust my shirt on Saturday? I went to the Indiana State Fair for the first time ever! And I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. I never made a point to go before because I assumed I would hate it, what with my general distaste for crowds, rides, crappy food, heat, and screaming children. But I gave it a shot this year and met some friends relatively early on Saturday. We pet llamas, fed goats, looked at vegetables and flowers, watched a few high school marching bands, and yes…ate deep fried ridiculousness. I rode zero rides and left before the crowds and heat go too bad. It went so well that I might even go back in 3-5 years.
One of my friends told me I looked wonderfully out of place at the fair, which is exactly the look I was going for. Just to give you an idea of how nerdy and unnatural I am at a state fair, my first photo op when we got there was to take a picture of the swine building because I liked the architecture. Hey, if I can find a way to enjoy myself, I just have to roll with it.
