Gingham and eyelet? Ugh, gag me with a J. Crew catalog, amiright?! Sometimes I put two things together because I think they’ll be so cute, and then I realize they’re just so…cute.

That’s when I figure out a way to balance out the preciousness a little bit, like with a simple low ponytail and and chunky black sandals. Not that there’s anything wrong with wearing gingham and eyelet with, say, a braid crown and espadrille wedges, but when you’re small and blonde and you want people to believe you’re an actual lawyer, sometimes it helps to de-cutify yourself just a little. It’s one of many life lessons I learned from Legally Blonde.

  1. Thank you for this great advice! I’m 46 so sometimes when I wear something that feels too “young” I need a way to make it more age appropriate. 🙂 These suggestions help.
