I leave for my first ever work trip in a couple days, and the most important part (outfit planning) has already begun! It’s a big international conference in Florida, so there are lots of factors to think about: I’ll be in CLE classes during the day (business casual), but at cocktail parties in the evenings (more fun); it’ll be 90 million degrees outside, but over-air-conditioned inside; I want to look nice and make a good impression, but I also want to be comfortable while I’m on my feet all day. In other words, there will be a lot of dresses with blazers, and lots of cute flats. In other other words, I’ll be checking a giant bag filled with like 10 outfits for 5 days. DON’T JUDGE ME. Those of you who are experienced business travelers – give me your best survival tips!

Meanwhile, I forgot to plan what I’m wearing to work tomorrow. Whoops. Anyway, here’s what I wore yesterday. This outfit came into existence because I happened to be wearing this skirt when this top came in the mail and I realized they looked good together. If only everything were that easy.

Top (on sale) // Skirt (on sale) // Bag // Necklace (on sale) // similar Shoes // similar Sunglasses

  1. Haha, I feel you! Just had my first international conference and I brought so many outfits! And then I forgot that they switched the order of the presentations, so I wore my “presentation outfit” one day early.. Luckily we were all scientists there (and some dressed the part too), so my other extra outfit worked just fine as well 😉

  2. I’ve been a lurker for a while but just wanted to comment that I think we’re going to the same conference (I work for a company that does trademark image searching) and I, too, am anticipating majorly over-packing for it.

  3. Have fun at INTA!
I have a few tips from going to some similar IP conferences, hope they help:
    – To combat over-zealous air-con and to work as a layer over jeans (for casual events and on the plane), and also over smart trousers/skirts/dresses, go for a jacket something like this in a neutral, with a fairly cropped length:

    – I tend to wear plain trousers/skirts (one of each in a neutral), and so having a patterned jacket is ok. But you could equally take a plain one.
    – try and make sure the heels you take are as comfy as possible. But still also bring a smart-ish flat for when your feet just cannot stand heels any longer.
    – I find the “cocktail” events are never as fancy as you think and business wear works for them just as well. If, like me, you like making an extra effort in the evening, statement necklace/earrings and/or fancier top/dress works
    well.
    I hope that helps!
