Can you wear lace up flats with contrasting tights? Well you can, obviously. But should you? Is it weird? I couldn’t decide but I gave it a try and I’m still undecided. It doesn’t look as good as I thought it would in my head, but I don’t think it looks bad either. I think it’s one of those things that would look fine on a supermodel but kind of “meh” on anyone else.

I posted a shot of my feet on Instagram the day I wore this and asked “yay or nay?” No one said either, but someone did correct my use of “yay” instead of “yea.” I answered that person that “yay or nay” still makes sense because you could answer “YAY! I love it!” but they didn’t answer. Then I looked at their Twitter feed and the whole thing was correcting different people on “yea or nay.” I mean, I might be making questionable footwear choices, but at least I have a little more purpose in life than whoever spends hours scouring the Internet for people misusing an archaic word. If you agree with me, say YAY!

  1. It’s like if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around–will it still make a sound? When you say the word, who cares how you spell it?
And funny how you researched the person…that’s a lawyer for you, huh? (but a good thing, i must add).
As for the contrasting tights–I want it to be okay because it’s too cold to go without and it’s too boring to match the shoes (then you don’t see how cool the shoes are). Did you try tights a little darker but still not black? I’d like to see that in comparison (of course I could just try it on me, but you have nicer legs) jodie

    1. I’m glad you can see why I did the contrasting tights! Yes, exactly, I wanted the laces to show up. The shoes are actually navy but I only have black, navy, and these gray tights. Maybe I’ll get darker gray ones eventually and try it again.

  2. True story: I read this post in the morning, then thought about it all day (is THAT weird? It’s probably weird). I say YAY, and only a little bit because a couple hours ago I ordered similar shoes and also live in a cold climate… so I need it to be ok for me to do it, too, hah.

(though I think maybe some of your internal conflict might come from the fact that the tights have a subtle stripe texture…. maybe they would go together better with smooth textured tights?)

    1. I’m so glad I could distract you with this important issue. And you could be right about the texture. Or maybe it’s the texture of the tights, plus the stripes on the dress.

  3. Ha! There’s also a Twitter feed of someone who corrects people who say sneak peak instead of sneak peek (it’s called Stealth Mountain, which you have to admit is hilarious).

Anyway, I’ll be a dissenter and vote nay (or neigh, because I like horses). For me, the shoes compete with the look – the eye is drawn right down to your feet, and the laces seem a bit fussy. I love the rest of the outfit, but the tight/shoe combo isn’t my favorite.

    1. Thanks Alison. I really do appreciate the feedback! I tend to be really overly critical (of everyone, including myself) so sometimes I don’t know if I’m being ridiculous or if I just have high standards. 🙂

    2. Also, I hate it when people say sneak peak. I’m actually a huge grammar nerd. However, I don’t dedicate a whole Twitter feed to it!
