Get ready for some Colbert-worthy truthiness. I feel like I have to tell you the whole story of this outfit since it says “Real Life” right there at the top of the page. I really did wear this exact outfit to work last week. But around 11am, I got up to go the bathroom, glanced down (gotta make sure the girls are where I left them), and noticed two big brown splotches on my lovely cream sweater. Yep, apparently I spilled coffee on myself in the morning and didn’t realize it, letting in soak in for a couple hours. Brilliant. I scrubbed the spots in the bathroom sink as best I could and then set the sweatshirt on my windowsill to dry. So in reality I spent the majority of the day wearing just the chambray and not the sweatshirt.  Only 2/3 of my outfit…I might as well have been naked. I explained my partial nudity to my boss, who told me that’s why she only wears clothes that are at least as dark as coffee. Smart woman. This is why I’m not partner material yet.

Anyway, since I didn’t want to put nude photos on the blog (it’s never going to be that kind of website so stop asking), I put the full outfit back on at the end of the day when we went out for ice cream after moving another round of boxes into the new place. Conveniently, my ice cream and my purse strap are blocking the stains in all these photos. But believe me, they’re there. Only time will tell whether this top is salvageable. If it’s not, I like to think its last hurrah was pretty cute, PLUS ice cream was served at its funeral. Not a bad way to go.

  1. I have the BEST stain remover I use and it’s super simple–1 part Dawn dish soap and 1 part hydrogen peroxide. It’s worked like a charm every single time! Hopefully it helps remove the coffee stain because if not, that’s a major bummer. That top is too cute to have met its death so soon.
