I got this floral trench in 2008 (I know because it was from the Thakoon Target collection), and I’ve only worn it about once a year since then. Maybe less. Every time I get it out, I think: “Man, I hardly ever wear this. I should just get rid of it. I have too many coats anyway.” So then I decide I’ll take it out for one last spin before it goes to the consignment store. But then I realize how adorable it is, and I put it back in my closet to be rediscovered next year.

Yep, it happened again. Over the weekend it was sunny and lovely, but not quite warm enough to walk around outside without a jacket. Since I was already wearing stripes, and since I’m me, the elusive floral trench was a no-brainer. I fell in love with the print all over again, but I did realize the coat’s actually too big for me.

So what do you think – keep it another year, or let someone else enjoy the Comeback Coat?

  1. My personal opinion is keep it….it’s such a statement! Who cares it’s a little big?..it’s a coat, it doesn’t need to be fitted!!! Heck, you could wear your pajamas under it and nobody would notice because they’d be in awe of that coat! jodie

ps…on second thought, send it to me!!!!

  2. I LOVE this outfit. So ladylike and springy. I’ve done the same thing with so many pieces in my closet, but I figure…if you have the room, and you really love it, once a year is still within the once a year rule. Clearly.

  3. I’m definitely in the keep it corner. It looks so good on you. The proportions are perfect. It’s hard to pass judgement on a coat of this material (my mom has the same coat– don’t worry, you don’t have mom style AT ALL- she’s pretty chic for a mom.) because it’s so limited, season wise. I feel like as long as you’re wearing it once a year, you’re getting your worth out of it.
