On Campus

Welcome to Part II of my anniversary weekend adventure!  In case I didn’t make it clear yesterday (or during basketball season), I absolutely love bragging about my alma mater. I wouldn’t trade my undergrad experiences for anything. Not even for all the cute shoes in the world.  I have fun every time I go back to visit, and Sunday was no exception.

We slept in (always the best way to start a Sunday – sorry, church), then had brunch al fresco at Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse. Next was shopping on Kirkwood Avenue – always a staple activity for any B-town trip. If you want a peek at Kirkwood, check out the first photo in this post from January!

Then we headed to the IU Art Museum to walk around the galleries. As an art history major, I spent plenty of time there back in the day, but just like the rest of campus, I never get tired of visiting. The museum was designed by I.M. Pei, who also designed the pyramid part of the Louvre. No big deal. It’s really cool because there are almost no 90 degree angles in the building except some of the windows and where the walls meet the floor. I assume that’s because it would be hard to hang paintings on angled walls.

The red sculpture you see in the photos above is in front of the museum. It’s called “Indiana Arc” by Charles O. Perry.

The rest of these photos were taken just a few steps away from the Art Museum at Showalter Fountain.  In the picture above, you can see my old stomping grounds in the background – the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts! Yay for impractical bachelor’s degrees!

  1. Funny, I spent 3 years in Btown and never went to the art museum! I will have to take a weekend and really explore Bloomington on a different level. Glad you enjoyed your weekend and thanks for the idea!
